K-PAX Racing’s Maxime Soulet set the pace in Practice 1 for the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Virginia at Virginia International Raceway.

Soulet, who shares his No. 3 GT Pro-Am Bentley Continental GT3 entry with Rodrigo Baptista, set the fastest lap of 1:42.964 late in the session.

R. Ferri Motorsport’s No. 61 Ferrari 488 GT3 was second and first in the GT Pro-Pro category 0.174 seconds off the pace of Baptista, with the Lone Star Racing’s No. 80 Mercedes-AMG GT3 third overall.

Other class leaders included Martin Fuentes in the GT Am category and Ryan Hardwick in GT Cup.

The session was halted by a brief red flag 15 minutes into the practice due to David Askew’s quick off-track excursion in the No. 63 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The car returned under its own power and resumed practice shortly thereafter.

A second red flag with five minutes remaining brought the session to a premature end when DXDT Racing’s No. 45 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Larry De George made wall contact in Turn 17.

GT and GT Cup cars return to the track at 3:35 p.m. this afternoon for Practice 2.

RESULTS: Practice 1

This story was updated to reflect that Soulet, not Baptista, set the fastest time in the session.
