Longtime IMSA participant RSR Racing is poised for a switch to Pirelli World Challenge, which could see the Paul Gentilozzi-owned team debut with GT3 machinery by as early as the second round of this season next month.
Industry sources have confirmed to Sportscar365 that Gentiozzi’s Michigan-based team, which has fielded Prototype Challenge entries in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, is finalizing a PWC program to possibly hit the track by the St. Petersburg event.
It’s understood the final race for RSR’s PC program could be next month’s Twelve Hours of Sebring, as the team shifts focus to the burgeoning sprint race championship.
Gentilozzi declined comment when reached by Sportscar365, although sources have indicated he’s already met with PWC officials and has requested the required entry and membership forms to compete in the championship.
It appears the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 and Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 are the front-running cars, although no decision has reportedly been made and could depend on chassis availability.
Bruno Junqueria and Chris Cumming had been the team’s confirmed drivers for its single-car TUDOR Championship PC entry.
No word has been given on the reason for the possible mid-season switch.
