The game of musical chairs in the GT racing world continues to play out, with Team AKKA-ASP announcing Wednesday a switch to Mercedes-AMG GT3s for 2016, which will include a full-season attack on the Blancpain GT Series.

The French squad, led by Jerome Policand, has purchased three of AMG’s latest GT3 contender, following a ten-plus year run with Ferrari machinery in both France and throughout Europe.

“It is true that it is not an easy decision to take, and there are a number of parameters to be considered,” Policand said. “We made this choice in perfect harmony with AKKA, which gives meaning to this new collaboration.

“In terms of working on the car, it is clear that we will have to adapt to this new chassis and engine. But it is also very stimulating for the team, and allows new horizons to open up.

“We will have three Mercedes cars, but we will also keep one Ferrari for some events. It should not be forgotten that this was the car which allowed the team to build up such a solid reputation… no fewer than seven national and international titles, 14 victories in France and ten in Europe.”

Policand said their main focus will be both the Blancpain Sprint and Endurance series, although it will also take part in the SRO’s newly formed GT Sports Club, which is reserved for gentlemen drivers.

The team is also evaluating a potential entry in the new Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cu, which will run on European Le Mans Series weekends but has clashing dates with Blancpain GT.

Driver lineups have yet to be finalized but Policand is targeting a Pro Cup entry for the Blancpain Sprint Series and 24 Hours of Spa.
