The GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG that had topped first qualifying for this weekend’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa has been kicked out of Friday’s Superpole after being sanctioned for the team working on the car during the session.

The No. 17 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo had set the best combined average during the three stages of Pro Cup qualifying thanks to the efforts of Maxime Martin, Maximilian Goetz and Fabian Schiller.

But it has now had its times deleted from the third segment of qualifying after officials ruled that mechanics completed work on the right-rear brake at the end of Q3 that was not permitted by event regulations.

Mechanics had been removing stones from the brakes amid the track being noticeably strewn with gravel in places, but had not informed marshals before doing so.

This has sent the crew plummeting down the order without any Q3 times and the GetSpeed machine will be unable to tackle the Superpole session on Friday.

It is a blow to the Intercontinental GT Challenge title ambitions of Martin who arrived at Spa as the joint points leader having won the opening two events.

With the Mercedes-AMG losing its time, the No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo of Alessio Rovera, Tommaso Mosca and Nicklas Nielsen now has the fastest average from first qualifying.
