Christopher Mies put Belgian Audi Club Team WRT on top after Friday’s two Free Practice sessions for the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup round at Hungaroring.

The German driver set a lap time of 1:42.871 early in the second session, beating Robin Frijns’ morning session time that was over a second slower.

Mies shares the No. 33 Audi R8 LMS with Enzo Ide, and the pair are second in the Sprint Cup drivers’ standings.

Filip Salaquarda was the man able to get closest to Mies, lapping the Hungarian track 0.274 seconds slower in his ISR-run Audi. The No. 1 WRT car made it an Audi 1-2-3 in the afternoon session.

Free Practice 2 saw most teams improve upon their morning times, and in fact Frijns’ 1:43.980 that topped Free Practice 1 would have put him 16th in the afternoon.

There was a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3s completing out the top-five; the No. 84 machine of AMG – Team HTP Motorsport and the No. 88 of AKKA ASP.

The top eight positions were filled with Audis and Mercedes, and the highest-placed other brand was Lamborghini. Grasser Racing Team’s No. 16 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 slotted into ninth in the FP2 standings.

Phoenix Racing with its new lineup in the No. 5 Audi was fastest out of the Silver Cup runners, and sixth overall. Kessel Racing led the way in both the Pro-Am and Am categories.

Qualifying is set for 11:45 a.m. local time tomorrow, ahead of the afternoon’s Qualifying Race.
