Reigning Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS combined Pro-Am class champion Chris Froggatt will move up to the Silver category in Sprint Cup with a new co-driver in Italian GT Endurance champion Giorgio Roda.

Froggatt’s team Sky-Tempesta Racing announced on Thursday that the British driver will share the No. 93 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 with Roda, who is new to the Sprint series.

Last year Froggatt clinched the overall Pro-Am title alongside Eddie Cheever, who will only feature in Sky-Tempesta’s Pro-Am Endurance Cup squad during the 2021 campaign.

Froggatt, Cheever and Jonathan Hui stay on as the team’s Endurance trio, while double 24 Hours of Le Mans GTE-Pro class winner Giancarlo Fisichella will be added to the lineup for the Total 24 Hours of Spa headline round.

Triple Grand Prix winner Fisichella contributed to Sky-Tempesta’s second-place Pro-Am finish at Spa last year, behind Lamborghini outfit Barwell Motorsport.

The Italian also teamed up with Hui to sweep the Sprint Cup meeting at Magny-Cours, in a one-off appearance for a second Sky-Tempesta Ferrari.

New Sprint Cup signing Roda, a former European Le Mans Series GTE class champion, won the Italian GT title last year with his AF Corse teammates Alessio Rovera and Antonio Fuoco, who is driving one of the Pro-class Iron Lynx Ferraris in Endurance Cup.

AF Corse also operates the Sky-Tempesta program, which has been competing in GTWC Europe since 2019.

“Despite the delays and disruption to last season, the team did a fantastic job and we were thrilled to come away with the Pro-Am trophies,” said Froggatt.

“This year is all about building on that momentum and defending our title – I can’t wait to get back out on track.

“Alongside our established endurance trio of Eddie Cheever, Jonathan Hui and myself, I’m looking forward to welcoming our new teammate Giorgio Roda.

“He has much experience of the 488 GT3 following last year’s Italian GT Endurance Championship, and I think we’ll be a formidable duo fighting for the Pro-Am title.”

This story was updated on April 7 following clarification of the Sprint Cup entry’s status. Froggatt and Roda will compete in Silver Cup, not Pro-Am as originally stated.
