R Ferri Leads Ferrari 1-2 in Practice 2 at VIR

Miguel Molina narrowly edged Jeff Segal for the top spot to lead the way for Ferrari in the hotly contested second practice session at Virginia International Raceway.

Segal had laid down the gauntlet with under ten minutes remaining, only for Molina to take the top spot by 0.032 seconds in the final minutes with a session-best lap of 1:43.220.

That put the Pro lineup of Molina and Toni Vilander in the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 in front of the Pro-Am duo of Segal and Wei Lu in the No. 31 TR3 Racing entry.

After setting the benchmark in Practice 1, the K-PAX Racing duo of Maxime Soulet and Rodrigo Baptista impressed once again by posting the third fastest time in Practice 2, with the No. 2 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Fabian Schiller and Daniel Morad just behind in fourth.

Yuki Harata and Alessandro Bressan were second behind Segal and Lu in the Pro-Am class and sixth overall for Dream Racing.

Cedric Sbirrazzuoli, meanwhile, was a remarkable seventh overall and third in the Pro-Am category in DXDT Racing’s backup chassis.

A Practice 1 crash for Sbirrazzuoli’s co-driver Larry De George forced the team to roll out its spare Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and thrash to prepare it in time to go out for Practice 2.

GT Am class honors went to Martin Fuentes and Caesar Bacarella for TR3 Racing, while Dream Racing’s Ryan Hardwick was fastest in GT Cup.

The lone red flag of the session, which lasted five minutes, came for debris with 38 minutes left.

Qualifying is next on the schedule for GT and GT Cup competitors on Saturday morning at 9:40 a.m. ET, with Race 1 of the weekend to follow at 1:25 p.m. ET.

RESULTS: Practice 2
