Alex Welch and James Sofronas have won the second GTS race of the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

Welch put his No. 14 GMG Racing-run Audi R8 LMS GT4 into the lead by passing Andy Pilgrim and stayed out front for the rest of the race which ended in under a full course yellow.

Separate incidents for Marko Radisic and Harry Gottsacker with less than ten minutes remaining called the neutralization of the 60-minute race while the No. 69 Racers Edge Motorsports SIN R1 GT4 and No. 22 Precision Driving BMW M4 GT4 were collected.

The No. 14 GMG car started from pole but Sofronas went off track after contact with Colin Braun on the first lap, dropping back to fourth position as Braun inherited the lead in the team’s sister No. 04 Audi.

The race’s first full course yellow was called on the opening lap after an incident involving Derek DeBoer taking almost 15 minutes to be cleared up.

The ST Racing BMW M4 GT4 of Nick Wittmer and Samantha Tan looked like a challenger for the win after taking the lead shortly after the restart but was given a drive-through penalty.

Tan dropped down the field from the lead with the car’s pit stop found to be 0.2 seconds under the 75-second minimum pit stop time.

Volt Racing’s Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman finished runner-up after taking the victory in Race 1 on Saturday while Pilgrim came home third in the No. 1 Blackdog Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.

Aurora Straus and Jon Miller took the Am class win in their No. 36 ST Racing BMW.

RESULTS: Race 2
