Bondurant Passes Away at 88

American motorsport icon Bob Bondurant has passed away at the age of 88.

Bondurant won his class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964 alongside Dan Gurney in a Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe and also competed in Formula 1 and Can-Am.

He was the only American driver to earn a World Sports Car Championship title in the Shelby Daytona Coupe. 

The High Performance Driving school that he established in 1968 became a standard-bearer for driver coaching and safety, and remains active today, with more than 500,000 students having graduated from the program.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, President and CEO of the Bondurant Racing School, who vows to continue the legacy of the school.

Bondurant once said: “My life has been lived in two halves. The first was becoming a world champion driver. The second was teaching the world to become champions.”
