Grasser Commits to Four-Car Lamborghini Entry for 2022

Grasser Racing Team has announced that it will join the DTM next year with a quartet of Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evos.

The Austrian squad is primed for its debut in the German championship with support from Lamborghini, which is set to provide a factory driver for the No. 63 entry.

The full driver lineup has yet to be announced, but the initial confirmation of a four-car program marks a statement of intent from both the team and the manufacturer heading into season two of the DTM’s GT3 era.

GRT team principal Gottfried Grasser told Sportscar365 in September that the DTM was one of the series under consideration for a 2022 campaign.

The team will only focus on the DTM next year, meaning that all three of its 2021 programs in IMSA, ADAC GT Masters and Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS are being dropped.

“I’m really thrilled to announce our upcoming venture in the DTM,” said Grasser.

“I’d like to thank Lamborghini Squadra Corse for their incredible support in this project. It’s a childhood dream come true.

“The DTM is one of the most exciting and most popular racing series in the world, and to enter four cars in this field is a terrific challenge we cannot wait to tackle.

“The Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo has proven its winning DNA many times and is certainly going to provide us with a competitive package in 2022. It’s going to be an exciting season, and I cannot wait to see our cars take to the track.”

Lamborghini was represented in the DTM this year by German outfit T3 Motorsport, which ran a pair of Huracan GT3 Evos on a full-season basis for Esteban Muth and Esmee Hawkey.

It also fielded a guest car at a handful of rounds, including the event at Assen where factory driver Mirko Bortolotti made his DTM debut and claimed a Race 1 podium.
