FIA Formula 3 frontrunner Tim Tramnitz has joined the BMW M Motorsport works driver ranks for this year and will race a BMW M4 GT3 EVO.
Having finished as runner-up in both Italian and German F4 in 2021, the German progressed further up the single-seater ladder and was fourth in last year’s F3 standings, having taken one win.
But he will now make the move to sports cars after impressing during BMW’s junior driver evaluation event in January.
He will make what the German manufacturer has described as “selected” appearances in an M4 during 2026, but no exact details of Tramnitz’s campaign have been given.
“I am super happy to now be part of the BMW M Motorsport family and look forward to the challenge,” said Tramnitz.
“For me, this is a big step, as I have dreamed of becoming a works driver for a major manufacturer since my time in karting.”
Head of BMW M Motorsport Andreas Roos labelled Tramnitz as “one of the greatest German young talents” after seeking another young driver to join the manufacturer’s ranks.
“In January, we evaluated several junior drivers during a test in the BMW M4 GT3 EVO – Tim impressed us with his performance and steep learning curve during his GT3 race car debut,” added Roos.
“I am sure we will have a lot of joy with him in the future. In general, we once again have a very strong works driver squad in 2026, with an excellent mix of youth and experience.”
Tramnitz’s arrival, alongside Jordan Pepper also joining, means BMW will have 23 factory drivers for 2026.
It was announced at the end of last year that long-serving Jesse Krohn would be departing the BMW roster, while it has also been confirmed that Madison Snow – who only officially joined the works lineup in 2024 – has not been retained.
