Christoph Sagemueller will step down as Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport at the end of the month, it has been confirmed, with the news coming less than three weeks after the German manufacturer’s landmark victory in the Nürburgring 24.
Sagemueller, who has held the position at the top of the brand’s GT racing program since 2021, will be departing “at his own request and by mutual agreement” according to a statement from a Mercedes-AMG spokesperson.
He will be replaced by current head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Head of Commercial and Marketing, Simon Wilbers, effective July 1.
Sagemueller had been a key figure in the brand’s GT3 success over the years and comes amid the development of an all-new AMG GT3 but under the wings of the recently formed Affalterbach Racing GmbH subsidiary.
The spokesperson confirmed to Sportscar365 that Stefan Wendl will continue to serve as Head of Customer Racing, with the “existing responsibilities and established ways of working in this area will remain unchanged.”
