GWR Australia has announced it will join the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia grid starting at next month’s Sydney Motorsport Park round.
Founded by driver Garth Walden, GWR Australia is a professional organization competing in a variety of national series including Carrera Cup, Monochrome GT4 Australia, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge and Radical Cup Australia, among others.
The Sydney-based team will compete with a brand-new Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, delivered into Australia earlier this year, entering the final two rounds at SMP and Sandown while assessing an expanded presence in the series in 2027.
“We’ve been looking at Mustang Cup closely since it started, and we felt that committing to the last two rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park and Sandown was a great opportunity to get involved,” said team director Garth Walden.
“The class has a great support from Ford, and that is really appealing.
“The best one-make categories anywhere in the world are those that have heavy involvement from the car brands. You can see the effort Ford Racing has put in to make this a destination class for both young drivers and older amateurs.
“For the young drivers, there’s the opportunity to go overseas for the Ford experience, which is great. But the most imporant piece is that it gets them on Ford Racing’s radar, and that could take them anywhere through their pyramid system.
“And for Ams as well, they can get opportunities to race in other parts of the world, plus win great prizes.
“We’re finalizing our driver plans now, so we’re looking forward to taking delivery of the car, announcing our driver and revealing the program.”
The addition of GWR Australia to the Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia field boosts an already strong field featuring HMO Customer Racing alongside involvement from top Supercars team Triple Eight Race Engineering and RM Race Cars.
Further details regarding the program, including the driver, will be revealed ahead of Round 5 of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park on Sept. 18-20.
