James Li and Sam Neser combined for overall honors in Wednesday’s Miami Makeup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, while Cooper Broll clinched the McLaren Trophy America Am class title with his fourth class win of the season.

Neser took the pole-sitting No. 74 RWE Motorsport McLaren Artura Trophy EVO to a 4.805-second victory over a hard-charging No. 24 Forte Racing machine of Patrick Liddy, who made up more than five seconds in his stint.

After taking the lead of the race from fourth on the grid on Lap 4, the No. 22 Greystone GT McLaren of Oliver Webb held control of the opening stanza until the mid-race pit stops.

While Webb’s co-driver Ryan James emerged in the overall lead, he was quickly passed by Neser.

James settled for a fifth place overall finish, which was still enough for he and Webb to take Pro-Am class honors in the 50-minute contest.

Broll, in his No. 100 Forte McLaren, finished third outright, passing both James and the No. 43 Motorsports In Action entry of Alexandra Hainer in the final ten minutes.

Hainer then overtook James to come home fourth overall and third in Pro.

The race had an early full-course caution for the No. 47 RWE McLaren of Spencer Schmidt, who had contact with the No. 44 ANSA Motorsports entry of Tom Dyer on Lap 4 and stopped on track with right-front wheel damage.

Schmidt’s entry was the only retirement in the race, while Dyer was served with a drive-through penalty for incident responsibility.

Fifteen cars took part, with only the cars that were originally entered for the Miami weekend permitted.

The No. 8 Forte McLaren was moved to the rear of the starting grid because of a driver change, as Paul Holton resumed normal driving duties after missing the Miami weekend due to a clashing event.

Twenty-one cars are set to take part in the remainder of the event.

The first originally scheduled race is set for Thursday at 5:15 p.m. EST with live coverage on McLaren Automotive and SRO’s GT World YouTube channels.
