Molina, Perez Companc Claim Road America Pole

Miguel Molina, in his SRO America return, and Matias Perez Companc combined to claim pole for this afternoon’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS race at Road America.

The duo in the No. 12 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo recorded an average of 2:04.819 to edge out Pro class title rivals Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg in the No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO by 0.291 seconds.

It marked the U.S.-based Italian squad’s second consecutive overall pole after Perez Companc combined with his regular co-driver Frederik Schandorff at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in June for top qualifying honors.

Foley, whose Turner BMW will line up second on the grid, set the session’s quickest time of 2:04.181 lap time, just 0.051 seconds quicker than Tom Sargent in the No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo.

It was a triple pole run for Ferrari, with the No. 18 Triarsi Competizione entry of Sebastian Mascaro and Riccardo Agostini taking Pro-Am qualifying honors with the third quickest average time on the time sheets.

Daniel Morad and Brayton Williams qualified their No. 9 TR3 Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo fourth overall and second in Pro-Am, ahead of the Pro points-leading No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG of Mikael Grenier and Michai Stephens.

The No. 28 RS1 Porsche of Jan Heylen and Danny Dyszelski, in his GT3 debut, qualified third in Pro-Am, thanks in part to Dyszelski’s impressive 2:06.031 lap time that put him fourth overall in Q1.

The No. 27 JMF Mercedes-AMG returned to action with a new engine and will start 11th overall in the hands of Jason Daskalos and Philip Ellis.

Am class honors went to the No. 163 AF Corse Ferrari of Benny Simonsen and Jay Schreibman in 16th overall in the 23-car starting field.
