Amateur drivers will return to the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, with the FIA confirming the addition of a class for Silver-rated drivers in next year’s edition.

It follows a push from both GT3 manufacturers and privateer teams for the inclusion of gentlemen drivers in the race, after previously banning Bronze and Silver-rated drivers from the event for the last two years.

Last month’s event on the Guia Circuit saw a depleted grid of 15 cars represented by five manufacturers.

Announced during Wednesday’s World Motor Sport Council Meeting in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the FIA also confirmed the date of the event for Nov. 14-17, subject to circuit homologation and promoter agreement.

Also confirmed was the previously announced venue for the 2019 FIA GT Nations Cup, which will take place at Vallelunga on Nov. 1-3.

The addition of “different categories of motorsport” to future Nations Cup events is being evaluated, with a view to creating”festival-like” events across multiple disciplines.

The SRO-promoted event, which launched this year, currently features GT3 machinery.
