Rebel Rock Racing will bring the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R back to Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition, with former series champions Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis reunited beginning with this weekend’s round at Virginia International Raceway.

Liddell and Davis will share driving duties of the No. 71 Camaro GT4, marking their first series race back together since winning the GS title in 2015 with Stevenson Motorsports.

The Scot, who competed full-time with Stevenson in a GT4-spec Camaro last year, had been on the sidelines since the closing of that team and subsequent death of team principal Johnny Stevenson, although Liddell had taken up a team manager role with UK-based squad Barwell Motorsport.

The new-look Rebel Rock operation, now under the ownership of Frank Depew, completed a test at VIR with its brand-new Camaro GT4 earlier this month in anticipation for this weekend’s debut race.

“It is tremendously exciting to be going back to VIR for what is a debut of sorts,” Liddell said.  “Having Andrew as my co-driver will give us the chance to get up to speed very quickly.

“The IMSA Continental Tire series is incredibly competitive but we’ve been working to put the right people in the right place, and we know the Camaro is quite capable.”

Davis added: “Robin Liddell and I have both a professional and personal relationship that spans nearly two decades.

“It’s a true honor to have an opportunity to once again share the car with him. We have enjoyed a great deal of success including victories and championships in multiple disciplines of the sport. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next.”

The longtime series entrant will utilize the final three Continental Tire Challenge races of the season in preparation for a two-car full-season effort next year.

“We are focused on being fully prepared for a two-car effort starting at Daytona in 2019, and these next three races will be key for those preparations,” Depew said.

“We are happy to be running the Camaro GT4.R and feel like we’ve got the potential to have a top-level program so everyone is looking forward to getting to the track this weekend.”

Bodymotion Returns, Winward/HTP to Skip VIR

The Rebel Rock entry is is one of 23 GS class cars set to take part in Saturday’s Biscuitville Grand Prix, which sees the return of Bodymotion Racing to GS but the absence of Winward Racing/HTP Motorsport.

Stevan McAleer and Joe Robillard will be back behind the wheel of the No. 5 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR after missing Road America due to ongoing repairs from the car’s race-ending accident at Lime Rock Park.

Both of Winward/HTP’s Mercedes-AMG GT4s, meanwhile, have been withdrawn for this weekend’s race in order to focus on preparing its entries for the final two races of the season.

Other changes to the entry list include the return of the Classic BMW M4 GT4s, along with the RS Werkes Racing Audi RS 3 LMS TCR and and an expansion to a second Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR entry for Rumcastle.

An optional promoter test day kicks off Continental Tire Challenge activities on Thursday.
