JDC-Miller Motorsports driver Michael Johnson has sustained a broken right leg in a testing accident Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.

Johnson’s Audi RS 3 LMS made heavy contact with the barriers in Turn 6 and the driver was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

On Monday, IMSA provided the following update on Johnson’s status:

“Michael suffered a broken right tibia and fibula and was transport to the local Florida Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery.

“Michael is awake, alert and in good spirits and in true Michael Johnson spirit looking forward to getting back in the car in the coming months.”

Johnson, who was paralyzed from the waist-down in a motorcycle crash at the age of 12, has raced in the open-wheel ranks and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in specially equipped race cars with hand controls.
