TeamTGM Returns for Road America with Cosmo, Plumb

TeamTGM returns to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition at Road America this weekend as the team looks to rebound from a weekend-ending crash at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park which kept the team from competing in the previous IMSA round at Lime Rock Park.

Team Owner and driver Ted Giovanis continues to recover from surgery on his Achilles tendon following the CTMP incident, so Guy Cosmo will be joined by Hugh Plumb in the No. 4 Porsche Cayman GT4 MR.

“First and foremost, I am grateful that Ted Giovanis is recovering well from his surgery and is getting better day to day,” said Plumb. “As he is appropriately known as ‘Iron Man Ted Giovanis’, he will come back stronger and more willful than before.

“It is a testament to Ted and all of those at TGM in the team’s commitment to move forward and make great things happen.

“From the leadership of the Giovanis family and Brandon Perrott (crew chief) and Joe Varde (Director of Competition) and a crew that’s the best in the business, I am confident this will happen.”

Plumb won at Road America in his most recent visit to the track in 2015 in which he and his brother Matt Plumb won driving a Porsche for Rum Bum Racing after Hugh took a front row starting spot in qualifying. He looks to continue those winning ways this weekend.

Cosmo marks his one-year anniversary with TeamTGM at Road America this year, having first raced with the team in last year’s Wisconsin event. The team drove to its best result of the year with a podium finish of third.

“I have to start by saying how disappointing it is that our main man, the ‘Ironman’ Ted Giovanis won’t be able to drive with me due to his injury from a very unnecessary accident in practice at CTMP,” said Cosmo.

“Ted is an absolute gem of a person and does so much for our sport through his passion and commitment to racing. And it’s because of his commitment to these people and this team at TeamTGM that we will continue to race while Ted recovers from his surgery.

“Given that, I’m thrilled to be sharing the wheel of our Porsche Cayman GT4 with Hugh Plumb for the remaining races. Hugh is one of the most competitive drivers in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge history.

“Our main focus as this new driving pair, and as a team, is to make Ted proud and get our program at TeamTGM as strong as possible for his return behind the wheel.”

Cosmo has a vast history of experience at the 4-mile historic road course having won many races and pole positions in a range of machinery – from formula cars to GTLM to LMP2.

“Given our podium finish last year at Road America, I’m really disappointed not to be driving this year,” said Giovanis.

“But that said, I can’t think of a better pairing to take on Road America than Guy and Hugh during my recovery. I know they will be great and I look forward to being there at Road America to cheer them on in person.”
