IMSA has adjusted the minimum drive times for four of the five classes ahead of today’s IMSA Fastlane Sportscar Weekend at Road America due to the expected inclement weather for the two-hour and 40-minute WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round.

Announced during this morning’s drivers meeting, the minimum drive time for the LMP2, LMP3, GTD Pro and GTD classes has been reduced from 60 minutes (LMP2) and 45 minutes (LMP3, GTD Pro and GTD) to 30 minutes across the four categories.

The minimum drive time of 10 minutes for DPi remains unchanged, although the maximum drive time has been extended to 2 hours and 10 minutes for the classes that were adjusted.

An IMSA representative told Sportscar365 that the “proactive” move was made by the sanctioning body in anticipation of possible disruptions during the race should there be heavy rain or lightning in the area.

It’s believed the move has been made to prevent a repeat of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, where nine cars, including both the GTD Pro and GTD winners, were moved to the rear of the finishing order due to do drivers not meeting the minimum time amid a red flag for lightning in the area.

Showers are forecasted all day in Elkhart Lake, Wis, with light rain currently falling on the Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands race.

The WeatherTech Championship round takes the green flag at 10:40 a.m. CT.
