Mazda won’t be the only team running a “throwback” livery in this weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen, as one of BMW Team RLL’s BMW M6 GTLM cars will be sporting a patriotic color scheme from the past.
The No. 25 BMW of Bill Auberlen and Dirk Mueller will be sporting a stars-and-stripes livery, originally carried on PTG’s BMW M3 GTR at Petit Le Mans in 2001, following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Incidentally, Auberlen was part of that driver lineup 15 years ago, teaming with Boris Said and Hans Stuck in the GT2 class contender.
A handful of other IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship teams will be carrying patriotic liveries or subtle design cues for the July 4th weekend race, including the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 Honda, No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP, No. 68 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GTE and No. 85 JDC Miller Motorsports Oreca FLM09.
IMSA has organized a photo shoot for all of the cars on Thursday afternoon.
