Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson controlled Race 1 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to take their fifth win of the season.

Formal led the field at the start and maintained his advantage after an early restart, with Wayne Taylor Racing teammate Ericsson continuing to lead once the mid-race pit cycle played out to lead a WTR 1-2 result in the No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.

Second overall was the Pro-Am winning duo of Jackson Lee and Trent Hindman aboard the No. 69 machine, with both drivers keeping their Lamborghinis comfortably at the head of the class and Lee securing the team’s podium finish 2.632 seconds clear of the third-place finishing Pro class World Speed duo of Jaden Conwright and Scott Huffaker.

WTR’s Giano Taurino and Nick Persing were classified fourth with Elias De La Torre and Will Bamber rounding out the overall top five, fourth in Pro, after a comeback drive necessitated by a sudden loss of pace at the start, which saw them initially plummet down the order.

Mateo Siderman took his first Am class win of the season in the No. 63 TR3 Lamborghini and finished inside the top ten overall.

Nick Groat put one hand on the LB Cup drivers’ trophy with a commanding win in the No. 57 One Motorsports Lamborghini, meanwhile.

The field fell under full-course caution after the opening laps, after multiple early incidents left drivers with punctures, bodywork damage, and debris on the track.

Jason Hart took left-front damage after contact and a spin, but was able to carry on in the No. 67 TR3 machine, while Christopher Tasca spun on the blue and white Turn 2 exit curbing.

Precision Performance Motorsports’ Dominic Starkweather was ultimately penalized 10 seconds for incident responsibility.

Forte Racing’s Ray Shahi and Kaizen Autosport’s Seth Henry suffered rear left punctures, which led to a spin at Turn 1 on Lap 2 for Shahi, who continued on while Henry retired.

After the restart, Sebastian Carazo’s race ended early after contact with Am class points leader Graham Doyle, which led to right-rear suspension damage on the No. 46 Precision Performance Motorsports entry and significant front-end damage to Doyle’s WTR Lamborghini, which was assessed a ten-spot grid penalty for Race 2.

Lindsey Brewer spun and was handed a ten-second post-race penalty for contact with Sam Shi while the pair were battling over the Am class podium before Enzo Geraci was penalized for contact with Hart.

Later on, the No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports Lamborghini of Slade Stewart and Ande Lee collected a ten-second post-race penalty after colliding with the No. 44 Kaizen machine.

A late incident saw Stephen Sorbaro make contact with Tasca under braking into Turn 1 before the ANSA driver spun later in the lap.

TR3’s Conrad Geis retired the No. 76 car after late contact with the outside wall on the run into Turn 1.

In total, seven drivers failed to make the finish, including the No. 28 Alliance Racing Lamborghini, which did not take the start in the incident-filled contest.

Race 2 is slated for Saturday at 5:10 p.m. EST and will feature live coverage available on Peacock as well as Lamborghini Squadra Corse and IMSA’s YouTube channels.
