Kyle Marcelli and Danny Formal won the second Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race at Watkins Glen as the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport duo maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

Marcelli successfully defended from Ryan Norman’s second-stint challenge to win Saturday’s 50-minute race and chalk up a fourth consecutive victory for the No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.

Formal started from pole position after the grid for Race 2 was determined by the results of the second practice session, due to an interruption in qualifying.

The Costa Rican driver established a four-second lead over Pro-Am leader Alexandre Premat before switching out for Marcelli, who continued at the head of the field.

Premat’s non-professional co-driver Jay Logan then dropped behind the Pro front-runners, with solo driver Ryan Norman rising to second after making an early pit stop.

Norman, who ran fourth in the opening stages, was initially just under five seconds behind Marcelli but the gap came down when the leader became caught in traffic.

That put Norman within sight of victory for several laps, only for his No. 84 WTR Andretti Lamborghini to retire with two minutes to go with smoke pouring from the car.

The TR3 Racing machine shared by Race 1 runners-up Giano Taurino and Lucas Petersson came through to finish second, with Sebastian Saavedra and Nico Jamin in third.

Jake Walker was fourth, one place ahead of Tom Capizzi and John Capestro Dubets who claimed Pro-Am honors after Dubets overtook Logan early in the second stint.

Logan and Premat ultimately ranked sixth in Pro-Am, with two entries from NTE Sport completing the podium.

Am pole-sitter Glen McGee started from sixth overall but a late overtake on his co-driver Anthony McIntosh saw Tyler Hoffman and Wesley Slimp capture the class win.

LB Cup went to Ofir Levy, who resisted constant pressure from Mark Wilgus to break the championship leader’s unbeaten start to the campaign.
