Super Trofeo Set for SRO America Event Debut at VIR

Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America is set for its first event with SRO America this weekend at Virginia International Raceway, featuring another bumper entry.

A total of 27 cars are on the entry list for the second round of the season, coming just two weeks after its season opener at Circuit of The Americas with NASCAR that attracted a record 30-car field.

The IMSA-sanctioned single-make series was added VIR to its schedule last month as a replacement for its originally scheduled trip to the 3.27-mile circuit on the Michelin GT Challenge weekend, which was moved from August to October as a consequence of the postponement of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

As a result, this weekend’s pair of 50-minute Super Trofeo races will be part of SRO America’s event headlined by Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS. 

Stevan McAleer and defending Pro class champion Madison Snow, who won Race 2 at COTA, head into the weekend as points leaders, with the Change Racing duo holding a five-point advantage over Richard Antinucci, who came out on top in Race 1.

Ten cars are again entered in the Pro class, with Nelson Piquet Jr. and Sergio Jimenez split up into separate ANSA Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evos after sharing the No. 13 entry at COTA.

Nico Jamin and Scott Andrews, who were in the second ANSA car in Texas, are not entered this weekend.

After fielding four cars at COTA, O’Gara Motorsport/USRT has entered only a single Lamborghini for VIR, for its Pro class pairing of Steven Aghakhani and Jacob Eidson. 

It accounts for the slightly reduced field compared to the season opener.

The No. 22 Dream Racing Motorsport entry, which was driven at COTA by Chris Lundin and Luca Persiani, has yet to confirm its driver lineup for this weekend, meanwhile.

Aside from the reduced O’Gara/USRT effort, there are no other changes to the entry list across the Pro-Am, Am and LB Cup classes.

Track action kicks off on Friday with a pair of practice sessions followed by qualifying on Saturday and both races on Sunday (8 a.m. and 4:35 p.m. ET). The par of 50-minute races will be streamed live on IMSA.tv, Lamborghini.com and Trackpass on NBC Sports Gold.
