Kelly-Moss will hold a female driver shootout, with the winner to race in Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands with the Madison, Wis.-based operation next year.

The most successful team in Carrera Cup North America history is currently fielding applications for 12 women with “proven race talent” that will be narrowed down to four that will take part in a two-day driver shootout at Putnam Park at the end of this month.

A committee has been assembled that features Lyn St. James, Kelly-Moss team owners Victoria Thomas and Andy Kilcoyne, race manager Ken Swan, team manager Will Alexander, data engineer Alex Stone and Pro class race-winning driver Riley Dickinson to determine the finalists and winner.

During the shootout, the women will be evaluated both on and off track, with event involving assessment of track times, technical communication with engineers, understanding of car dynamics, interview skills, sponsorship value, fit with the team and more.

“Our goal is to find the very best female talent to drive our Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, type 992 competitively in the 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup North America series,” said Thomas.

Funding for the 2023 season includes 16 races, six tests, race entry fees, a Porsche GT3 Cup car for the races and tests, tires, fuel, professional photography and a staff of professional driver coaches, engineers and technicians.

“We chose to invite women who have shown they can compete at the level necessary,” Thomas added.

“We feel the Kelly-Moss pedigree, with 35 national championships under our belt, truly gives the support necessary to break the barrier of the first female-owned team/female pro driver championship in motorsports history.”

A similar initiative was recently announced by The Heart of Racing, which will put the winning female race in the seat of the team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT4 next year.
