Alex Sedgwick stormed to pole position for this afternoon’s Porsche Carrera Cup North America round at the Miami International Autodrome, edging out Jimmy Llibre and Ryan Yardley for top qualifying honors.

The PT Autosport-backed JDX Racing driver recorded a best time of 1:57.164 in the No. 98 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car, outpacing Llibre’s No. 2 ACI Motorsports entry by 0.076 seconds.

It marked the Englishman’s first career Carrera Cup pole.

Yardley is set to start Race 1 from third on the grid in the No. 78 Topp Racing Performance Porsche, ahead of Pro class points leader Gus Burton and early title rival Loek Hartog, for MDK Motorsports and Kellymoss, respectively.

Michael Cooper is set to roll off from sixth on the grid for Race 1, ahead of Zachary Vanier and Dane Clarke in seventh and eighth.

Pro-Am qualifying honors went to Efrin Castro, who led a Kellymoss 1-2-3 in class ahead of Jordan Wallace and Alan Metni.

Chris Bellomo, meanwhile, took the pole in the Masters class, also in a Kellymoss Porsche.

Qualifying ended several minutes early after a session-ending accident involving multiple cars after fluid was laid down on the circuit following a spin by Tom Balamas, who was hit by Angel Benetiz.

Clarke, Matt Halcome and John Goetz were also reportedly involved in the multi-car accident that brought proceedings to an early finish.

An initial red came out early in the 30-minute session for the No. 66 entry of David Tauty, who had an incident.

Race 1 takes the green at 5:50 p.m. EDT with live coverage on PorscheCarreraCup.us, IMSA.tv and Peacock.
