Front-row qualifiers Kay van Berlo and Riley Dickinson have been demoted to the back of the grid for Saturday’s Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands race at Road America after their cars failed technical inspection.

Van Berlo and Dickinson’s Kelly-Moss Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars were found to have “non-compliant parts” per separate IMSA technical bulletins issued after Friday’s qualifying session. No further detail was given regarding the parts in question.

The same infraction applied to the No. 10 Kelly-Moss machine that qualified third in the Am class with Vernon McClure behind the wheel.

All three cars had their lap times deleted, sending them to the back of the Race 1 grid and promoting JDX Racing’s Parker Thompson to the overall pole.

It also moved MDK Motorsports driver Trenton Estep onto the front row, while the Kelly-Moss pair of Michael McCarthy and Sean Varwig will start third and fourth.

An updated starting list for the opening race shows McClure in 31st, followed by championship leader van Berlo and Dickinson, who sits fourth in the standings.

The qualifying times for Race 2 will be based on drivers’ best laps during the opening 40-minute encounter, which starts at 8:50 a.m. CT.
