Flying Lizard Motorsports has announced plans to relocate the headquarters of its racing programs from Sonoma Raceway in California to Apex Motor Club in Arizona.

The multi-disciplinary team, which competes in GT4, Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Porsche Sprint Challenge, is set to move into its new 15,000-square-foot facility next fall.

Flying Lizard will house its “central operations” in the grounds of the Apex track which is located in Maricopa, approximately 40 miles south of Phoenix.

Construction of the workshop is due to be completed next year, while the team will determine its California presence after 2023 once it has moved into its new primary base.

The former American Le Mans Series title-winning outfit, which has been based at Sonoma for almost 20 years, intends to use its proximity to Apex as a way of providing track testing and arrive-and-drive packages for drivers.

“Sonoma has been an amazing home for us, but as our team continues to grow, our organization needs a central headquarters with room to grow, and the Apex facility perfectly fits the bill,” said Flying Lizard program manager Darren Law.

“Apex is really an ideal location for us because both myself and one of my business partners, Tommy Sadler, live locally.

“The racing community in the area is larger than one would expect, and it is rare that a race facility is in a location such as this.”

Apex Motor Club is a multi-configuration circuit that was opened in 2019.

The 280-acre facility is currently undergoing a development drive that will add a two-mile circuit to the northwest of the current 2.27-mile course.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Flying Lizard to Apex,” commented Matt Williams, managing partner and Vice President of Apex Motor Club.

“Our development has always been about being the best, and our association with the Lizards is one more instance of that.

“We look forward to working cooperatively with the Lizards on the final design of our second track as well as utilizing their input on member activities and driver education.”

Law added: “This is a great move for Flying Lizard. Our program has seen a lot of changes over the last few years, and it has only made our business more successful.

“It will be great to have all our cars and programs under one roof and in a brand new and popular facility.”
