Lamborghini factory driver Matteo Cairoli will make his LMP2 debut in the European Le Mans Series with Iron Lynx.

The Italian will share the No. 9 Oreca 07 Gibson, which will be run as part of a joint entry with Proton Competition, with the previously confirmed Jonas Ried and sports car racing debutant Maceo Capietto.

Cairoli raced with Iron Lynx in ELMS last year as part of its Porsche effort in the GTE class, taking a class victory at Spa-Francorchamps and two further podiums en route to the standings.

He will dovetail his ELMS program with a IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup campaign as part of the Lamborghini GTP program, which is also run by Iron Lynx.

Ried, the son of Proton team principal Christian Ried, made his LMP2 debut in the Pro-Am category last year.

Capietto, meanwhile, is set for his prototype racing debut. The 18-year-old French driver has competed in French and Italian F4 as well as the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine.

“We are very excited to welcome Maceo to the team,” said Iron Lynx team principal Andrea Piccini.

“He is a very talented driver, and he is the perfect fit for our family.

“Despite being young, he has already proven himself in the junior single-seater ranks and showed his speed and skills testing with our GT3 during the winter.

“Completing our dynamic line-up is Matteo, who I am personally pleased to see given additional track time in prototypes in 2024 to gain valuable experience also for the LMDh programme.

“The two additions along with Jonas is set to form a strong line-up in ELMS this year.

“We have a fantastic and successful relationship with Proton Competition and I am looking forward greatly to continue it into 2024 and to do so with an LMP2 is a very exciting opportunity for all of us.”
