The ACO has confirmed that the current homologation cycle for the cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar class has been extended for three additional years through until the end of the 2032 season.

Confirmed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Tuesday and announced on Friday’s ACO’s annual pre-event press conference ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the move marks the second year in a row that the ruleset, which includes both LMH and LMDh cars, has been extended.

The move is understood to be aimed at providing incoming manufacturers Genesis, Ford and McLaren a longer runway to roll out their respective LMDh programs, while also potentially courting any additional OEMS that have been rumored to be evaluating programs.

It will push the eligibility of the current breed of top class prototypes into the next decade, having initially debuted with only LMH in 2021 before LMDh joined two years later.

IMSA President John Doonan, in attendance at the ACO press conference, confirmed that the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTP regulations will be similarly extended with “more definition to come.”

Notably, a further extension of the current top class regulations would further rule out a new ruleset tied to a single platform of cars, something Porsche Motorsport boss Thomas Laudenbach previously spoke out in favor of.

No mention was made at Friday’s announcement about a further allocation of Evo jokers or the rumored introduction of a second car homologation as part of the extension, which would enable Peugeot to build an all-new car to replace the current 9X8.
