AF Corse has added newly crowned FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 champion Robert Kubica to its ranks for the 2024 season.

The 38-year-old is fresh off LMP2 championship success with Team WRT and has been seeking a route into top-class competition as the secondary prototype category will not form part of WEC next season.

The Pole indicated as recently as the WEC finale in Bahrain that he had been in contact with Hertz Team JOTA about a race role for the 2024 campaign, which now appears to not have materialized.

“I’m happy that my path and the path of AF Corse will be the same next season,” said Kubica.

“AF is one of the most successful teams ever in motorsport: I’m sure we’ll do a great job together. What’s more, I’m back in an Italian team, which is no small matter.”

AF Corse states that more information about Kubica’s role in the team will be released “in the coming weeks.”

The signing comes not long after Antonello Coletta, Ferrari’s global head of endurance, told reporters that the Italian brand is “ready” to support a potential third 499P in WEC’s Hypercar class.

It is understood that a third car could be associated with the Richard Mille AF Corse entry that competed in the now defunct GTE-Am category this past season.

“It is a great honour to welcome a driver of Robert’s calibre to our family,” team owner Amato Ferrari said.

“His talent and great professionalism will bring new added value to our team.”
