Strakka Racing’s Nick Leventis has been ruled out of this weekend’s FIA WEC Six Hours of Fuji after contracting a lung infection in Japan.

The British squad has elected to race with a two-driver lineup, of Jonny Kane and Lewis Williamson, who like Leventis, is Silver-rated.

“First and foremost are thoughts are with Nick at this time,” said team principal Dan Walmsley.

“We have been monitoring his progress over the past couple of days and thanks to the excellent care he has received in Tokyo, he has made good progress from being very poorly but the medical advice is to rest.

“Nick is obviously disappointed, this is one of his favorite tracks on the WEC calendar but the wellbeing of our drivers has to be our priority and it would be unwise to compete if not 100 percent.”

It’s understood the team had initially evaluated flying Danny Watts in for the race but ultimately elected for a two-driver lineup. Watts has been sidelined since the Six Hours of Nurburgring following the addition of Williamson to the roster.

“The team is delighted that Nick wants us still to race and equally that both Jonny and Lewis are happy to cover the race between them,” Walmsley added.

“Despite the setback, everybody at Strakka is fired up to deliver a strong result for Nick this weekend.”
