Esteban Muth has been ruled out of the final four races of the DTM season due to surgery, the Belgian revealed on social media.
The Walkenhorst Motorsport driver wrote on his Instagram page that he had to undergo “urgent surgery,” preventing him from racing at the Red Bull Ring this weekend as well as the Hockenheim finale.
“This really sucks but it’s life,” Muth wrote.
“2022 really has been one to forget. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in this season.
“See you all in 2023!”
Muth was in the midst of his second season in DTM after debuting with T3 Motorsport last year.
During his debut campaign, the 20-year-old became a frequent points scorer en route to 13th in the championship.
He moved to partner Marco Wittmann in Walkenhorst’s expanded two-car effort this year.
He scored no points and recorded a best race finish of twelfth at the Lausitzring, often particularly struggling during qualifying.
It is currently unclear if Muth will be replaced for this weekend’s Red Bull Ring races.
Theo Oeverhaus most recently joined the team for a guest start at the Nürburgring, but is unlikely to return amidst his ongoing DTM Trophy campaign.
