Rene Rast beat Sheldon van der Linde to secure an all-Schubert Motorsport front row for DTM Race 2 at the Red Bull Ring.

The three-time series champion steered the No. 33 BMW M4 GT3 to a best lap of 1:27.671, beating stablemate Van der Linde by 0.111 seconds to top qualifying for the second time this season.

He secured his 26th career pole in the process, breaking Bernd Schneider’s record for the most pole positions in championship history.

Both Van der Linde and the No. 14 Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jack Aitken put in late improvements, but ended the session second and third.

They bumped Thomas Preining in the No. 91 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R to fourth, with Marco Wittmann completing the top five for Team Project 1.

Clemens Schmid picked up sixth place with a late flyer aboard the No. 63 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, just 0.002 seconds ahead of SSR Performance driver Franck Perera.

Ayhancan Guven slotted into eighth place aboard the No. 24 KÜS Team Bernhard Porsche, while Mirko Bortolotti qualified ninth.

The championship leader only posted a competitive time until late in the session, jumping from 24th to sixth before eventually falling back to the bottom of the top ten aboard the No. 92 Lamborghini.

Dennis Olsen rounded out the top ten aboard the No. 90 Manthey EMA Porsche, ahead of Andrea Caldarelli, Thierry Vermeulen and Ricardo Feller.

The second and final DTM race of the weekend starts at 1:30 p.m. CEST (7:30 a.m. EDT).
