Schubert Motorsport and Walkenhorst Motorsport will represent BMW in the DTM this year with both German teams fielding two examples of the new BMW M4 GT3.

Sheldon van der Linde and Philipp Eng will drive for DTM newcomer Schubert, while Marco Wittmann will return to Walkenhorst alongside Esteban Muth who moves across from Lamborghini squad T3 Motorsport.

Walkenhorst fielded a single BMW M6 GT3 last season and was joined by ROWE Racing, which has moved its two-car effort over to Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup.

Van der Linde was one of the ROWE Racing drivers in 2021 and is set to continue in the DTM for a fourth consecutive year with Schubert, while Eng is making his return after campaigns in 2019, 2019 and 2020 before the series switched to GT3 machinery.

Schubert raced in ADAC GT Masters last year with BMW factory drivers Nick Yelloly and Jesse Krohn, and has also competed at the Nürburgring 24.

“Becoming involved in DTM is another milestone for Schubert Motorsport that is filling me and the entire team with great pride,” said team boss Torsten Schubert.

“It is one of the world’s most attractive race series and its name has represented professional racing at the highest level ever since.”

Walkenhorst driver Wittmann was the highest-placed BMW competitor last season, finishing fourth in the standings.

The two-time champion dropped out of the title fight in the latter stages but finished fourth overall with two victories and three further podiums.

Walkenhorst is increasing its DTM roster the coincide with the arrival of the new M4 GT3, which the team is already running this month in the Asian Le Mans Series.

“After the positive impact we made in the 2021 [season] with two race wins and several podium finishes, we are confident that we can back up that success with our new spearhead, the BMW M4 GT3,” said Walkenhorst team owner Henry Walkenhorst.

“We are proud to line up with two cars this year. With Mega-Marco and the overtaker Esteban, we have found the perfect combination for our team.

“The faith being put in us by BMW and our sponsors motivates the whole team to do everything in its power to achieve the big goal.

“We are looking forward to the 2022 DTM, hopefully with plenty of fans at the circuit.”

BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel added: “DTM is a significant platform that is setting benchmarks, not only in sporting terms, but with its entire presence.

“We are looking forward to first-class, thrilling racing at great international circuits. At the same time, the DTM platform is also playing a substantial role in our further activities.”

20 drivers have now been confirmed for the 2022 DTM season, including full lineups from BMW and Mercedes-AMG which announced its seven-car roster on Tuesday.
