The new Lexus RC F GT3 car has claimed victory in its race debut, with Dominik and Mario Farnbacher taking top overall honors in Saturday’s ninth round of the VLN season at the Nürburgring.

The German brothers stretched the fuel mileage of its 2017-spec Lexus to edge out the No. 23 ROWE Racing BMW M6 GT3 of Alexander Sims and Stef Dusseldorp by 33 seconds for a historic first win for the manufacturer’s GT3 car.

The Farnbacher Racing-run entry competed in the SPX class, for experimental or unclassified cars, as it has yet to receive its 2017 homologation.

It took part in the FIA’s Balance of Performance test in Ladoux last month.

“I cannot believe what we managed today,” Mario Farnbacher said.

Dominik Farnbacher added: “The collaboration between Lexus in Japan, Toyota in Cologne and our team was perfect.

“The prototype we used for the first time today was almost all-new and it still can be driven to be more comfortable.”

Christopher Mies and Connor De Philippi completed the overall podium in the 250-mile race in their No. 28 Land Motorsport Audi R8 LMS.

The Lexus will compete in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year as a two-car factory supported team run by Paul Gentolozzi, under the 3GT Racing banner.

Further testing and development is planned for the car, both in Europe and the U.S., over the coming months.
