Kiwi V8 Supercars ace Shane van Gisbergen will continue to expand his GT platform in 2015, as he’s been announced as a McLaren factory driver this season.

He’ll join the roster that includes Kevin Estre, Alvaro Parente, Rob Bell and Bruno Senna.

Van Gisbergen’s particular race schedule is to be determined, as he has a full season of V8 Supercars ahead.

But he has past McLaren GT experience, notably in the 2014 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour and Spa 24 Hours last year. He has also competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona the last two years with Alex Job Racing.

“It is great to have Shane on board for the 2015 season,” said McLaren GT managing director Andrew Kirkaldy.

“He showed some real talent when he raced the 12C GT3 in the Australian GT championship last year, and was the quickest man on track at Bathurst last year when I raced alongside him, and we narrowly missed out on a podium in one of the closest finishes in the race’s history.

“He has shown himself to be a great talent in Australia, and we are confident that he can recreate that success in Europe.”
