Oulton Park Double-Header to Open Nine-Race 2022 Season

Oulton Park is due to host the opening round of next year’s Intelligent Money British GT Championship according to the provisional 2022 calendar published on Wednesday.

British GT’s double-header at Oulton is poised to return to its traditional Easter Bank Holiday Monday slot after being pushed back to later dates the last two years due to national coronavirus measures.

The SRO Motorsports Group-run series is continuing with the same set of venues it has visited since the 2019 campaign, but with some changes to the running order.

The three-hour race at Silverstone has been kept as round two after it was given that slot in the adapted 2021 calendar.

A second three-hour race is set to be held at Donington Park in late May, followed by a double-header weekend at Snetterton which was originally booked as round two this year before being shifted to later in the schedule along with Oulton.

Snetterton is now due to take place earlier than the overseas event at Spa, unlike in 2021 when the pair of one-hour races in Norfolk came after the trip to Belgium.

The series will head to Spa for a two-hour race as part of the SRO Speedweek package on July 23-24, one weekend before the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa.

Single two-hour contests at Brands Hatch in September and Donington in October round out the season.

This year Brands hosted the season-opener, following the postponement of the Oulton Park and Snetterton events which shifted the Kent track from round three to round one.

The provisional 2022 calendar avoids clashes with the SRO-run Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, while British GT has said that scheduling conflicts with the British Touring Car Championship have been “minimized where possible”.

The two major national series are on course to overlap twice next season during rounds three and four of British GT.
