The Fanatec GT2 European Series will expand to six rounds and visit two new circuits for its second season next year.

SRO Motorsports Group announced the 2022 GT2 calendar during its annual press conference at Barcelona last weekend. The inaugural season of the amateur driver-focused series reached its conclusion at Paul Ricard earlier this month.

Next year will see the Red Bull Ring and Valencia added to the calendar, while Hockenheim has been dropped after hosting a standalone meeting in 2021.

The expansion to six events comes with an adjustment to the points scoring system, in which the best five results from each crew will count towards the championship.

The round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria will bring the GT2 European Series onto the ADAC GT Masters support bill for the first time.

It will mark the second round after a curtain-raiser at Monza on April 8-10, when GT2 is set to appear on the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup undercard.

Misano remains on the schedule for round three as part of the GTWC Europe Sprint Cup weekend that forms the first of two July dates.

The series will again race at Spa on July 23-24, one week before the 24-hour GTWC Europe and IGTC race at the Belgian track, while the Sprint Cup meeting at Circuit Ricardo Tormo near Valencia will play host to the penultimate round of the season.

Paul Ricard was the site of this year’s GT2 finale and retains that status for 2022.

The GT2 European Series, which is reserved for Bronze and Silver-rated drivers, recorded an average of 12.4 entries during its five-round debut season while Paul Ricard attracted the largest field of 16 cars.

Brabham brought its BT63 GT2 Concept to the season closer, in anticipation of an SRO homologation for 2022 alongside current brands Audi, Porsche, KTM and Lamborghini.

July 2-3 – Misano
July 22-24 – Spa-Francorchamps
