Pumpelly Puts TRG on Top in St. Pete Opening Practice

Spencer Pumpelly set the fastest lap in the opening practice session for this weekend’s Pirelli GT4 America Sprint season-opener on the streets of St. Pete.

Pumpelly turned in a time of 1:19.575 early in the Friday morning run to put the No. 66 TRG Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport on top, 0.023 seconds ahead of Jade Buford in the No. 12 PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4.

Four different manufacturers were represented in the top four, with Ian James slotting his Panoz Avezzano GT into third on a 1:20.216 and Michael Cooper posting the fourth-best time in the No. 10 Blackdog Speed Shop McLaren 570S GT4.

Chevrolet was set to make it five manufacturers in the fastest five until Alan Brynjolfsson came through with a late improvement in the No. 7 Park Place Motorsports Porsche.

The Pirelli GT4 SprintX East points leader bumped ahead of Robinson Racing’s Shane Lewis in the No. 72 Camaro GT4 to claim the quickest Am-class time of the morning.

No major incidents were reported in an opening practice held under sunny skies, with a practice second run set for 3:20 p.m. ET.
