Wilson, Cosmo on GT4 SprintX Poles at Road America

Kris Wilson and Guy Cosmo have secured poles for the pair of Pirelli GT4 America SprintX races at Road America this weekend.

Wilson took his No. 16 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 to a 2:18.407 lap to take GT4 SprintX Am pole in the 15-minute session.

He was 0.165 seconds quicker than Patrick Byrne, who qualified second overall and pole in GT4 East Pro-Am for the returning RENNtech Mercedes-AMG GT4 squad.

Drew Staveley qualified third, and second in GT4 East Pro-Am, in his No. 24 Ian Lacy Racing Ford Mustang GT4, ahead of Matt Fassnacht’s No. 34 Murillo Racing Mercedes, who was quickest of the GT4 East Am competitors.

GT4 SprintX Pro-Am title contender Matt Travis will start fifth in his No. 47 Nolasport Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, meanwhile.

David Donohue, in his professional racing return, qualified sixth after recovering from an accident in his No. 36 Andretti Autosport McLaren 570S GT4 in opening practice on Friday.

Cosmo Storms to Pole for Race 2

RENNtech’s Cosmo will start Race 2 from the pole, in a storming run in the Mercedes.

Cosmo’s overall pace-setting 2:17.440 was 0.602 seconds faster than the No. 34 Murillo Mercedes of Christian Szymczak, with the No. 47 Nolasport Porsche of Jason Hart third and on top in GT4 SprintX Pro-Am.

Greg Liefooghe and Robby Foley completed the top-five in their BMW and Porsche entries.

Race 1 gets underway at 5 p.m. CT with live streaming coverage on the series’ official website, while the second 60-minute two-driver contest slated for Sunday at 12:10 p.m.
