James Davison has landed a last-minute ride in this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX season-opener at Virginia International Raceway, joining DIME Racing for the pair of 60-minute races.
Davison has replaced Michael Macs at the wheel of the team’s No. 111 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 alongside Jonathan Summerton, in what’s now been upgraded to a GT Pro-Pro class entry.
It’s understood occasional Ferrari Challenge racer Macs struggled in the Lamborghini in the opening two days of track activity, prompting a replacement driver
While Davison has no prior experience in the Huracan GT3, the Australian has laps in the Super Trofeo variant, with TRG in last year’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series.
Davison starred at the wheel of TRG’s Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 in the season-opening Sprint round in St. Pete, finishing second in Race 1 prior to a race-ending mechanical failure in Race 2.
