RealTime Plotting Return With Acura NSX GT3 Evo

RealTime Racing could be back on the grid in GT World Challenge America powered by AWS next year according to team owner Peter Cunningham, who indicated that a “number of things” are potentially at play for 2021 including possible outings in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The longtime World Challenge entrant, which has been forced to take a hiatus this year due to several programs not materializing, is plotting a program that would see the Wisconsin-based team return to GT racing with an Acura NSX GT3 Evo.

When asked if it could be in GTWC America or the WeatherTech Championship, Cunningham replied with “yes”.

“There’s a number of things going on right now,” he told Sportscar365. “It’s just discussions at this point.

“It’s not out of the question we’ll be right back to the grid next year. TCR is not out of the question [as well] but we’re mainly looking at NSX GT3.”

RealTime, which is supporting the JAS Motorsport-run Team Honda Racing effort in this weekend’s Indianapolis 8 Hour, ran an Acura NSX GT3 Evo for Dane Cameron and Mike Hedlund in GTWC America last year, claiming multiple Pro-Am class victories as well as overall honors at Road America.

Cunningham said it “remains to be seen” whether Meyer Shank Racing’s move to the DPi class of the WeatherTech Championship, and thus ending its involvement in GT Daytona, could help RealTime’s chances of a potential customer program in GTD.

HPD President Ted Klaus and Shank have both made personal pushes to help bring customers into class next year.

“It’s a little early just what’s going to happen or what HPD’s plan for the future will be,” Cunningham said.

“I don’t know if we’re discriminating against either [series]. I think it depends on what the customers want to do.

“We are certainly poised to be right back and going again. But a number of things have to happen over the course of the next period of time.”

Cunningham, who is a minority owner in SRO America, is again serving as a steward for this weekend’s event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
