The No. 29 Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 EVO of Robby Foley, Justin Rothberg and Connor De Phillippi combined to lead the way in qualifying, which locked in the top ten cars that will advance to this evening’s Superpole for the Desder Indianapolis 8 Hour.
The trio in the Pro class BMW recorded an average of 1:23.460, which was 0.99 seconds slower than the No. 69 Archangel Motorsports McLaren 720S GT3 Evo of Aaron Telitz, Todd Coleman and Thomas Fleming.
Foley set the outright quickest lap in the three-stage session, a 1:22.830 in Q3, which also saw drama for the No. 6 Dollahite Racing Ford Mustang GT3 EVO of Chris Mies, who appeared to have had brake issue on the entry into Turn 1.
Mies managed to keep the Pro-Am class entry in the run-off area and crucially not bring out a red flag, and as a result, keeps the car’s fourth place best time and position in the pole shootout.
The No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, featuring five-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou, was third on the combined time sheets, with the No. 12 AF Corse Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo completing the top-five.
Other cars to advance are the No. 34 JMF Motorsports Mercedes-AMG, No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, No. 28 RS1 Porsche, No. 27 JMF Mercedes-AMG and No. 8 McCann Racing Porsche.
Both of Wright Motorsports’ Porsches failed to make Superpole, with the No. 31 car, featuring Laurin Heinrich, set to start the race in 11th overall.
Am class pole honors, meanwhile, went to the No. 11 Mad Joker Racing Mercedes-AMG of Peter Dempsey, Ben Keating and Marc Austin.
Qualifying was delayed due to a timing and scoring issue that curtailed Pirelli GT4 America qualifying, which pushed the schedule back by roughly 30 minutes.
Superpole is now scheduled to start at 6:10 p.m. EST with live coverage on SRO’s GT World YouTube channel.
