BMW M Team WRT will field a pair of Pro-class cars in the Indianapolis 8 Hour as BMW looks to defend its points lead in the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli manufacturers’ standings.

The Munich marque took victories in two out of three IGTC rounds contested so far this year, with Team WRT winning the Kyalami 9 Hour before ROWE Racing triumphed in the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

As a result, BMW leads nearest rivals Mercedes-AMG by nine points with two rounds remaining.

Philipp Eng, who was part of the crew that won at Spa and currently sits joint second in the drivers’ standings, will pilot a BMW M4 GT3 alongside Dries Vanthoor and Sheldon van der Linde.

Notably, Charles Weerts has been split from Vanthoor and Van der Linde after competing in the previous three IGTC rounds together.

Instead, the Belgian will drive the second car alongside Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus.

Farfus was part of BMW’s last winning lineup at Indianapolis, sharing a Walkenhorst Motorsport-entered BMW M6 GT3 with Nicky Catsburg and Connor de Phillippi in 2020.

BMW’s entry at the event is completed by two cars from Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS regulars BimmerWorld and ST Racing.

Robby Foley will join Bill Auberlen and Chandler Hull aboard the No. 94 machine, while the No. 38 ST Racing BMW will compete in Pro-Am with Samantha Tan, factory driver Neil Verhagen and a yet-to-be confirmed third driver.

“The Intercontinental GT Challenge has been an extremely happy hunting ground for us so far this season,” said BMW M Motorsport director Andreas Roos.

“We lead the manufacturer standings after the victories at Kyalami and Spa-Francorchamps, and are also well-placed with our drivers.

“At the Indianapolis 8 Hour, we are looking to continue that run of success and back up the good results that BMW M Motorsport teams have achieved there in recent years.

“I am also pleased that our North American teams are represented strongly at their home event. I will have my fingers crossed for all of them!”
