A big crash of Maxi Buhk’s No. 84 HTP Motorsport Benltey Continental GT3 ended the first practice session for the Blancpain Sprint Series round at Brands Hatch early.

The 2013 Blancpain Endurance champion went wide at the exit of Paddock Hill Bend, lost the back end of the car and planted it into the wall on the opposite side of the track.

Despite the heavy impact, Buhk was able to immediately exit the vehicle and deemed OK by the doctors. The chassis meanwhile incurred considerable damage at the front-end, meaning the car is out for the weekend.

The No. 83 sister Bentley also had an off track excursion, while the No. 74 ISR Audi of the Danish Fjordbach brothers caused a red flag at the beginning of the hour after getting beached in the gravel trap at turn one.

Sergio Jimenez went fastest in the 60-minute session, putting the No. 0 BMW Team Brasil Z4 GT3 0.091s clear of Laurens Vanthoor’s No. 1 WRT Audi.

Craig Dolby ended up in third with the MRS GT Racing Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, followed by the No. 2 and 4 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audis.

Free practice 2 starts at 11.55 a.m. local time.
