The team principal of GetSpeed Performance has received a late call to drive for SunEnergy1 Racing at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa after initial plans to replace the injured Kenny Habul fell through.

Adam Osieka, whose GetSpeed organization is running three Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos at Spa, is set to step into the Haupt Racing Team-prepared SunEnergy1 Mercedes-AMG that is also being driven by Chaz Mostert, Nicky Catsburg and Martin Konrad.

SunEnergy1 owner Habul was ruled out of the race after a crash in Pre-Qualifying on Thursday and plans were quickly drawn up to have Liam Talbot replace him in the crew.

However, a stewards’ bulletin issued on Friday evening states that Talbot, who is traveling from Australia to Belgium, will not be able to arrive in time to complete a formation lap which was a requirement of his participation.

Osieka is set for his 24 Hours of Spa debut, although he drives for GetSpeed in International GT Open and has also driven at the Nürburgring 24.

The bulletin stated that the stewards “have noted the driving experience of Mr. Osieka and consider that he has sufficient experience to participate in the event.”

Osieka will be required to complete two laps during this evening’s warmup session and receive driver briefing details from the SunEnergy1 team in order to compete.

“You can never plan for what is going to happen in this business,” said Osieka of his late call up.

“Kenny is a bit of a legend for what he has achieved over here and it is an honor for me to be asked to drive with the team.

“I am happy to be in a position to help out.

“I know I have a job to do and hopefully we can get a good result for Kenny and the team.”

Getting another Bronze-rated driver to replace Habul means that SunEnergy1 can remain in the Pro-Am class, which requires a pair of Bronzes in the four-person lineup.

“It has been a crazy 24 hours,” said Habul.

“We welcome Adam to the team. I was not expecting to get a bonus driver when we did the deal to buy the car from AMG.

“There have been so many moving parts in pulling this together, but it was important for Chaz, Nicky and Marty that we had a SunEnergy1 entry in this race.

“I could not be more proud of my team, especially Eric and Jono who basically worked through the night and the next day to get us a car ready for the warm-up.

“I am disappointed that things didn’t work out for Liam [Talbot] after he committed to the race.

“The boys have a task ahead of them, but they will be smart and push on with the job.”
