Will Martin claimed victory in the second Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America race of the weekend at Watkins Glen International, which ended under yellow.
The JDX Racing driver led flag-to-flag in Saturday’s 40-minute contest, finishing ahead of the No. 53 Kellymoss Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Riley Dickinson, in a race that concluded behind the safety car due to cleanup from an accident by Chris Bellomo.
In a near carbon copy move from the start of Race 1, Dickinson ran wide in the Turn 1 run-off after attempting to overtake the Englishman, although slotted into second for the duration of the race, which saw Martin hold a consistent two-second advantage until the race’s neutralization.
The win for Martin, his second of the season in the single-make series, came after the JDX Racing driver dropped out of the lead in Race 1 due to left-front damage sustained to his Porsche, handing the win to the No. 20 MDK Motorsports entry of Jason Hart.
Hart completed the podium on Saturday, followed by the No. 17 McElrea Racing Porsche of Tom Sargent and Alex Sedgwick’s No. 98 PT Autosport/JDX Racing Porsche, which completed the top-five overall.
Jeff Mosing picked up Pro-Am class honors in his No. 56 Topp Racing Porsche after passing the No. 65 Kellymoss entry of Efrin Castro on Lap 11.
The two drivers, which finished nose-to-tail on Friday, enjoyed another duel in the first half of the race.
The No. 43 MDK Porsche of Mark Kvamme, meanwhile, picked up the Am class win.
It came in a 1-2 finish for the Ohio-based squad after the second-placed No. 57 Wright Motorsports Porsche of John Goetz was assessed a ten-second post-race penalty for lining up on the wrong side at the start of the race.
Two other cars were also given identical penalties for not respecting the starting procedure.
Bellomo crashed his No. 68 MDK Porsche in Turn 8 with 12 minutes to go amid a sudden downpour of rain in portions of the circuit, resulting in the race’s only safety car period that stretched to the conclusion of the race.
It was the only major incident in the eighth round of the season.
