Inter Europol Partners With PR1/Mathiasen for LMP2 Entry

Inter Europol Competition and PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports have teamed up for an LMP2 entry in next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Reigning 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP2 class winner Inter Europol was not included in IMSA’s list of full-season entries released on Thursday, but will nonetheless participate courtesy of its new affiliation with the multiple title-winning PR1/Mathiasen squad.

The full-season entry will be known as Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.

Jakub Smiechowski, who was part of the Polish team’s victorious Le Mans lineup, has been announced as the Silver-rated driver for the Michelin Endurance Cup rounds, while the full-season pairing is still to be confirmed.

As reported by Sportscar365 in July, Inter Europol had been plotting a return to the WeatherTech Championship grid next year following the end of the LMP2 class in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Its most recent WeatherTech Championship outings came in the 2020 editions of Motul Petit Le Mans and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

“PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has proven over many years that it’s a very strong team in IMSA,” said team manager Sascha Fassbender, who is in attendance at Petit Le Mans this weekend.

“They have won the championship, and for us, it was a logical step to work with them in an IMSA partnership.

“I am really looking forward to this journey. Our partnership with PR1 allows us to hit the ground running, and we will be competitive from the very first day.

“So, we’re delighted to confirm that we have signed with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports owner Bobby Oergel for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Kuba will compete in the five endurance races as the Silver-graded driver.

“We are now talking with Pro and Bronze drivers with a view of fighting for the championship from the very start.”

California-based PR1/Mathiasen claimed three consecutive LMP2 titles between 2019 and 2021, and is in contention for this season’s championship at the 10-hour Petit Le Mans finale.

Two of its current drivers, Alex Quinn and Ben Keating, have already been confirmed as part of United Autosports’ 2024 lineup.
