IMSA to Remain With Current Driver Combo Rules in 2025

IMSA will not mandate four-driver lineups for the GTP and GTD Pro classes in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and three-driver squads in the six-hour races at Watkins Glen International and Indianapolis Motor Speedway next year as originally planned, it has been revealed.

The sanctioning body communicated the reversal of the rules to competitors on Wednesday, which will see the two pro classes remain with the current 2024 rules, which mandate a minimum of three and maximum of four drivers for the twice-around-the-clock season-opener.

The six-hour races, meanwhile, require a minimum of two and maximum of three drivers for the GTP and GTD Pro categories.

A statement from IMSA read: “In consideration of challenges with global championships scheduling and respect for operating budgets, IMSA has elected to revert the proposed 2025 combinations to remain consistent with the 2024 regulations.”

The reversal of the rules does not impact the Pro-Am-enforced LMP2 and GTD categories, which will still be mandated to run four (Rolex 24) and three-driver lineups (Watkins Glen, Indianapolis) next year.
